Selvita releases the results of SEL24 oncology program |
|
Monday, 16 November 2009 |
Kraków, Poland – November 12, 2009 – Selvita Ltd.has released the results of its SEL24 oncology program. The most recent data was presented during a poster session of the AACR-NCI-EORTC International Conference on Molecular Targets and Cancer Therapeutics 2009.
Selvita presented the poster # A242, titled “Identification of novel and specific Pim-1 kinase inhibitors with potent anticancer activity in hematological and solid tumor malignancies”, which reports on the results of a lead optimization study of a new small molecule Pim-1 kinase inhibitor - SEL24-1.
Dr. Nicolas Beuzen, Selvita’s CSO commented about the most recent results: “In order to improve the potency and selectivity of the original compound, a series of new derivatives was synthesized and screened for Pim-1 inhibition. Among the newly synthesized compounds several exerted increased potency in Pim-1 inhibition with IC50 values below 5 nM. We are very enthusiastic about this progress as results of the optimization efforts clearly support further development of this class of inhibitors in oncology indications.”
Pim kinases are one of the most interesting new therapeutic targets which are being currently researched by the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the world. According to the most recent literature reviews Pim kinases are strongly related to the process of oncogenesis and development of leukemias, prostate cancer, breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, renal cancer and glioblastomas.
SEL24 is the major oncology program that Selvita currently has in its pipeline, first-in-human application for SEL24 is planned for 2011.

Selvita Releases New Molecular Modeling Software for Life Science Researchers |
|
Tuesday, 06 October 2009 |
Selvita releases its breakthrough protein structure prediction and protein-protein docking package for life science researchers with Selvita Protein Modeling Platform 2.0
Krakow, October 5, 2009 -- Selvita, a privately-held provider of products and services for biotechnology industry, today announced the release of Selvita Protein Modeling Platform 2.0 (SPMP 2.0), the latest version of its flagship protein discovery research software. This release features a new protein-protein docking module, usability enhancements, and improves discovery results for its users. SPMP 2.0 provides the necessary set of tools for protein structure and interactions modeling in web-based interface adapted for both beginner and expert users’ needs.
Dr. Nicolas Beuzen, Selvita’s Chief Scientific Officer, announced the new version release, saying: “For this major update of Selvita Protein Modeling Platform, our team of experts has been working at adding an unparalleled protein-protein docking module to the unique feature set of SPMP. This most important customer-requested enhancement completes our software offer in protein structure modeling. The core feature of the docking approach is to introduce a substantial degree of protein backbone flexibility during docking. Our technology allows users to predict protein-protein interactions on an unprecedented scale, surpassing previously available solutions in comparative benchmark studies. We have also improved our loop modeling and molecular mechanics optimization protocols together with 3D visualization functionalities and web-interface usability. Starting with homology modeling, broad range of tools, and together with unique structure prediction from sequence only and protein docking capabilities, SPMP 2.0 allows researchers to obtain comparative views of the protein structure and interactions data that they want to understand”.
“Protein structure predictive modeling is already advancing drug design by providing invaluable information on structure of protein-protein complexes” added Dr. Beuzen. “Antibodies are among the most promising drugs of the future. Selvita Protein Modeling Platform 2.0 will help scientists design and analyze new antibody-based drugs candidates with unmatched precision"
The key concept behind the Modeling Platform is the integration of state-of-the-art bioinformatics tools in a user-friendly web application, thus ensuring portability and interoperability among systems. Selvita Protein Modeling Platform 2.0 contains a robust core of unique structure prediction tools with high scientific credibility gained by its core algorithms in academic environment. Additional SPMP 2.0 components allow enhanced visualization capability, comparison of molecular models, sequence and structural analysis tailored to accelerate and simplify the discovery process.
The key modules of SPMP are:
- homology modeling , providing a complete procedure for structure prediction based on homologous structures, starting from sequence only;
- protein-protein docking, catering for a complete docking module including rigid-body docking, optional structural filtering according to user-provided data on interface residues and fully flexible docking approach;
- loop modeling , including loop structure prediction module from sequence only;
- de novo modeling for structure prediction module from sequence only.

Selvita responsible for antibacterial peptide analysis in a pan-European consortium |
|
Tuesday, 17 February 2009 |
Krakow, 17 Feb 2009: Selvita announced today that it will participate in an SME-driven collaborative research project within a pan-European consortium to develop innovative technology and equipment for solid phase peptide synthesis.
During the course of this 3 year, 3 million euro global project, Selvita will be in charge of performing analysis of available sequences of antibacterial peptides, searching for peptide motifs responsible for induction of cytokines and predicting in silico the antibacterial activity and cytotoxicity (induction of apoptosis) of these peptides.
"The recent selection of Selvita in this prestigious research consortium, spanning four different countries exemplifies our strengths to translate scientific discoveries into meaningful technologies", said Dr Nicolas Beuzen, Chief Scientific Officer at Selvita. "The PEPLASER project, funded by the European Union through the 7th Framework Program, will allow to improve the competitiveness of our industry, as well as to guarantee the development of new technologies. This project should boost the field of proteomics in a similar way than DNA microarrays did with the field of genomics”, added Dr Mateusz Nowak, Project Leader at Selvita.
A strong scientific structure has gathered from eleven institutions in four European countries (Germany, Austria, Poland and Bulgaria). PEPLASER is being coordinated by Dr Frank Breitling, one of the pioneers of antibody technologies, and co-inventor of the laser printed peptide array from German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg (DKFZ), which ranks among the world top five molecular biology institutes. In Poland, the project will also be conducted in Poznań by BioInfobank.
